Cellulite is an inflammatory condition of the fatty cells which gives rise to a dimpled, lumpy appearance particularly of the thighs and buttocks, arms and stomach. The presence of cellulite indicates that the body is in need of a thorough cleanse and detoxification, as if left untreated it could lead to more serious conditions such as arthritis or permanent fluid retention.

What is cause of cellulite according to Ayurveda?
It is recognized in Ayurveda as the result of following a Kapha-provoking diet, that is, a diet high in fats, especially if foods are fried. When the Kapha is not metabolised the liver, digestive system and consequently the metabolism as a whole become sluggish. Fats are deposited where there is already fat, leading to an unsightly appearance of the affected areas. Hormone imbalance, poor digestion and lack of exercise also affect the progression of cellulite.
What happens during the cellulite treatment and what are the benefits?
Ayurveda employs a form of massage using special oils and paste that:
- improves the lymphatic circulation
- help break down fat deposits
An additional benefit can be gained in the treatment of ‘spider’ or‘thread’ veins .These are caused by lack of elasticity or flexibility in the lymphatic system. Treatment can be carried out similarly through the use of massage oils and through the detoxification of the liver to improve the processing of fats.
To maximise the benefits gained by the massage treatment program, diet and lifestyle can be reviewed along with the introduction of appropriate exercise regime.
