Did you know that the mouth is home to a complex, diverse and abundant colony of microflora which adheres to the tongue, cheeks and gums as well as to the teeth?
While most of the microflora is essential to our body some of it can be problematic for your teeth and gums, resulting in dental caries, and gum disease such as gingivitis or peridontitist.
Gum Disease Symptoms and Treatment
Loose teeth, inflamed gums, spaces appearing between the teeth, and bleeding gums are all signs that you might be developing gum disease. In Ayurveda there is an effective way to treat halitosis and gum disease through the use of herbal gum massage oil. A small amount of oil can be rubbed along the gums or swished around in the mouth, in the same way as oil pulling, for a few minutes then spat out into the sink.
Description
How do gum problems and bad breath happen?
Loose teeth, inflamed gums, spaces appearing between the teeth, and bleeding gums are all signs that you might be developing gum disease.
According to Ayurveda, ama (toxic waste product) is being continuously produced in the body and if there is any blockage in the lymphatic flow, the salivary glands can become clogged and cause a loss of acid-alkaline balance. This can encourage an overgrowth of bad bacteria and fungi which can cause bad breath (halitosis), build up of plaque, or gum disease (pyorrhea).
The taste buds also become less sensitive and nausea can result from the constant bad taste in your mouth. As the situation worsens, ama can spread to any part of the head – including the throat, sinuses – as well as being swallowed into the digestive tract. So it is important to take care of your gums and their environment by keeping oral flora balanced.
The Ayurvedic Solution
Ayurveda has provided an effective way to selectively reduce the bacteria in your mouth through the use of herbal mouth cleansing oils. They can be swished around in the mouth for a few minutes and spat out, and also massaged along the gums. They are very effective in keeping the oral flora balanced, and unlike some of the better known mouthwashes, many of which contain alcohol, they do not kill off beneficial bacteria at the same time, and they do not cause hypersensitivity or irritations such as mouth ulcers.
Ayurvedic gum massage oils are more effective than simple oils as they have been prepared with specific Ayurvedic herbs helpful for oral health. The oil also forms a protective coating which reduces further bacterial growth.
Along with using oil pulling therapy with the gum massage oil, regular teeth cleaning with our Yatan Ayurvedic Herbal Tooth Powder also helps in maintaining oral hygiene and sparkling white, clean teeth!.
