Discoloured Stained & Yellow Teeth : Natural Teeth Whitening
Tooth discolouration is often a cosmetic problem that occurs when the enamel or the underlying dentine layer become stained.
Discoloured teeth or stained teeth can be caused by some drinks and foods, such as coffee, wine, cola, apples and potatoes which can lead to yellow teeth. Other possible causes include drugs, for example antibiotics, preservatives in food and fluoride in drinking water. It is also frequently seen to be a feature of the aging process. The great variety of colourations that exist can be the result of many different types of chemical changes in the body, sometimes as a result of disease, for example in cancer. In some cases only parts of the tooth are involved, and in others the entire tooth. By far the most common is a yellow coating, caused by an overgrowth of bacteria.
Before any Ayurvedic treatment for tooth discolouration or teeth whitening can be undertaken the underlying cause of each individual case needs to be analysed, for example to assess whether the problem is systemic, internal or acute. In the case of simple bacterial overgrowth, in addition to introducing measures to improve oral hygiene foods and medicines are prescribed to alkalise the system.
