Ayurvedic Treatment For Watering Eyes

A watering eye is usually the result of either the failure of tears to drain away properly, or of an excessive production of tears. The lacrimal glands under the upper eyelids are constantly producing tears to keep the eyes moist. Every time the eyes blink this fluid is spread over the surface of the eye, and any excess passes through the tear ducts into the nose. Any interruption to this process can cause watery eyes.

Watering eyes can affect any age group but they are most common in young babies and in people above the age of 60. The problem is not generally serious, but it can cause irritation and inconvenience. The most likely cause is a blockage in the tear ducts but in older people, due to the drying out of the tissues, the tear ducts may lose their ability to contract, so that the flow of tears loses its control.

Ayurveda has many medicines for eye health. Many of the Rasayanas – rejuvenation medines – such as Brahmi, Shankapushpi, Amalaki and Bhringraj can be highly beneficial in the case of the elderly.
