Obstacles in Returning to Health Heal and Bloom

We all face obstacles throughout life’s journey. These obstacles are not so much problems as opportunities to test our determination, learn new lessons and improve our focus. The pathway to overall good health as provided by Ayurveda is no different. It can be helpful to be aware in advance of some of the distractions that can be encountered along the way.

These include:

  • Impatience or undue haste – Illness does not arise out of the blue; it is the result of imbalances that accumulate over a long period. These imbalances need to be addressed in a painstaking, logical fashion. Sometimes there can be the feeling that one is ‘better’ at an early stage because some of the more noticeable symptoms have subsided. If treatment is dropped at an early stage symptoms will start to reappear.
  • Doubt – sometimes the client wonders whether the treatment is working, sometimes even whether anything will ever work. Contradictory information or rumours from a variety of sources can be a considerable distraction. It is important to discuss progress or any concerns about the course of your treatment with your practitioner.
  • Loss of confidence – again, the practitioner can provide reassurance.
  • Fatigue – this is just a part of the body’s natural biorhythmic cycle. There will always be ‘low’ days just as there will be times of high energy.
  • Financial – often used as an excuse for lack of perseverance, but when the cost is viewed against the benefits it becomes clear that a certain amount of sacrifice leads to huge rewards.
We must recognise that the Ayurvedic path to wellness is an ongoing process rather than a ‘quick fix’ and allow the benefits to accumulate progressively as we follow that path. As health improves other aspects of life are seen to improve at the same time.
